Cibex (Expanded)
Prevents water loss of mortar or concrete
Achieves early initial and final strengths
Compatible with all types of Portland cement (except Type 5 cement)
Description
Cibex (Expanded)
To control and compensate for the effects of shrinkage in concrete and mortar, the use of a specialized material is essential. Cibex (Expanded), composed of expansive agents and nanosilica, is added as an effective additive to mortar and concrete. This material, formulated and produced in the form of a concentrated powder, improves the performance of concrete and mortar by controlling shrinkage.
In concrete sections, whether in fresh or hardened concrete, cracking usually occurs due to shrinkage and contraction of the mortar during the hydration process and water loss. This issue is considered one of the significant challenges and primary concerns for contractors and engineers in construction projects. In addition to this factor, several other reasons can contribute to concrete cracking, including:
- The type and amount of cement used in the concrete mix
- Water loss caused by surrounding water-absorbent sections
- The water content used in the concrete mixture
- Failure to follow proper curing and concrete treatment practices
- Ambient temperature conditions
- The quality of the aggregate materials used
The application of Sibex plays a crucial role in various projects, such as grouting, concrete casting, and structural repairs. This product is compatible with all types of Portland cement, except for Type 5 cement. Using Sibex ensures that shrinkage caused by cement hydration is neutralized or reduced to a minimum.

How to use
The best method for adding Sibex to mortar or concrete is after mixing all the components and adding water. It is recommended to mix for at least 1 minute per cubic meter to ensure uniform distribution of the material throughout the mixture. Controlled expansion occurs when no lateral pressure is applied to the mortar or concrete before the initial setting of the cement, allowing the mortar or concrete to naturally expand and fill any voids and spaces. The expansion typically takes place within 2 hours after mixing with the mortar, depending on the amount of expansive powder used and the type of cement. It is always recommended to add Sibex along with a superplasticizer to the mortar or concrete for better distribution of the expansive powder particles, which helps reduce water consumption for making the mortar slurry, thus increasing its strength.
In cold weather conditions with temperatures below 7°C, it is better to use rapid-hardening cement. The use of pozzolanic cement or Type 5 cement with the expansive agent will not yield optimal quality results.
