Description

Microsilica Gel

Microsilica Gel is an advanced and modified additive based on polycarboxylate ether, consisting of superplasticizer, microsilica powder, polypropylene fibers, and water-repellent materials. This gel is used for producing various types of strong, impermeable, and durable concrete. As a super pozzolan, microsilica gel has a significant impact on improving the strength, durability, and other properties of concrete. Using this gel increases the density of the concrete and enhances its compressive, flexural, and tensile strength.

In general, microsilica gel is one of the key additives in the concrete industry. It is used in various climatic conditions to improve the strength and stability of concrete, as well as to enhance its mechanical properties and durability.

Properties and Effects

  • Reduction of cement content by approximately 15 to 20 percent
  • Lowering the water-to-cement ratio
  • Improvement of the rheological properties of concrete in its plastic state
  • Prevention of cracks caused by thermal stresses in concrete
  • Prevention of bleeding and segregation of concrete
  • Increased tensile, flexural, and compressive strength of concrete
  • Enhanced abrasion and electrical resistance of concrete
  • Increased durability and resistance of concrete to freeze-thaw cycles
  • Reduction of permeability to water, chloride ions, and sulfate attack
  • Production of homogeneous, paste-like concrete
  • Creation of a smooth, exposed surface
  • Increased workability of concrete without the need for superplasticizers
  • Improved pumpability of concrete and reduced wear on concrete pumping equipment
  • Significant reduction of surface cracks in concrete
  • Prevention of corrosion in rebar and steel plates

Applications

  • Production of high-strength and specialized concrete
  • Execution of large-scale concrete pours
  • Use in concrete exposed to freeze-thaw cycles
  • Suitable for the production of impermeable and waterproof concrete
  • Application in the construction of tunnels, treatment plants, water transfer channels, and reservoirs
  • Suitable for concrete exposed to explosive conditions
  • Execution of industrial hard flooring concrete
  • Use in all types of reinforced and non-reinforced concrete
  • Suitable for concrete in areas exposed to chemical and corrosive attacks
  • Production of durable concrete for bridge construction, docks, dams, and reservoirs

Method of Use

There are two methods for adding microsilica gel to concrete:

  1. Mix it with all or part of the mixing water, then add it to the dry materials and mix.
  2. Add the gel after all components of the concrete mix have been added.

Important Notes:

  • For every cubic meter of concrete, mixing should be done for at least 1 minute.
  • In cases where there is a long time gap between mixing and pouring, it is recommended to add the microsilica gel in two stages. First, add part of it in the batching process, and then add the remaining part 5 minutes before pouring the concrete into the truck mixer. After adding, mix the batch for 2 to 4 minutes thoroughly.
